AI meltdown...and dancing bond bros

The speaker argues that the recent market correction was driven by a clash between high inflation data and bond investors' growing conviction that the economy, tied to AI, is heading for a downturn. He points to CoreWeave's bond price falling below 80 cents and its CDS implying a 63% default probability as a key trigger, which led to a rush into bonds and a simultaneous sell-off in equities. He advises investors to treat the macro environment like weather and to be cautious, while monitoring the 10-year minus 2-year spread and AI's ability to grow despite the macro headwinds.

Yield vs growth...and...Pokemon cards...

The speaker argues that the current market is in a quadrant where high bond yields and high growth make stock performance highly dependent on individual company growth, with AI and adjacent sectors likely to outperform. He also reports that bond funds lack dry powder to capitalize on high yields, which may slow yield declines. In the Pokémon TCG market, he concludes that while manipulation exists, there is also organic demand from wealthy new collectors, making the vintage low-pop grail segment dangerous to enter.

Volatile yield and France...

The market remains hostage to the 10-year Treasury yield, which stayed volatile between 5.18% and 5.34% despite a flat week for equities. The speaker argues that the Fed's repeated hawkish inflation stance and France's worsening deficit crisis keep yields elevated, while weak September nonfarm payrolls (29,000 vs. 89,000 expected) triggered a rally on a 'bad is good' logic, showing that investors now welcome any data that might deter rate hikes. He cautions that hedge funds' massive Treasury purchases (over $460 billion) signal a bet on yields peaking, but nothing is certain.

Stock market is feeling invincible

The stock market's continued rise despite surging bond yields defies traditional valuation models, the speaker argues. He attributes this to the market's perception of AI as 'macro immune' and too big to fail, citing Fed officials who view AI investment as disinflationary. He cautions that markets can remain irrational for long periods and advises reacting to market movements rather than denying them.

Fed hiked...but stocks are up..?

The speaker argues that the equity market rallied after the Fed's 25 basis point rate hike because the direct driver of stock valuations is the bond yield, not the policy rate itself. The 10-year yield fell despite the hike due to lower oil prices and bond market relief that the Fed is addressing inflation, while the Fed's growth-positive narrative and central banks' coordinated efforts to manage long-term yields also supported stocks. The speaker acknowledges this is an exceptional, non-textbook period and that the explanations are somewhat speculative.
