Ep 42: The Physics of Badminton, Shuttlecock Science, Left-Hander Advantage, Smashing Mechanics

Left-handed badminton players have a slight advantage in slice shots because the shuttle's natural counterclockwise spin interacts differently with the clockwise spin they impart, causing the shuttle to lose energy and drop more steeply. This effect, demonstrated with high-speed cameras, means opponents should move forward to defend against left-handed slices. The shuttle's drag also causes smash speeds to halve every 3.35 meters, so smashing from one meter closer to the net is as effective as smashing much faster from the back.

Ep 41: Agents Behind India's Biggest Sporting Stars, Sponsorship Deals, Athlete Personal Branding

Sports agents in India must secure athletes' financial stability so they can focus on performance, as deals follow success. Equipment sponsors are the primary income source for badminton players, and contracts are structured based on the athlete's career stage, with younger players taking more ranking-based risk. The speakers argue that brands should commit to athletes through ups and downs, not just wins, and that the sport's commercial ecosystem lags behind tennis, requiring agents to work harder to secure deals.
